This is usually caused by the VGA driver becoming corrupt. Go into  'Control
Panel' then 'Device Manager' ( you may have to go into 'System' first) then
find your video card under 'Display Adtepters' or 'VGA' . Right-click on it
and then on 'Remove' or 'Delete'.
Re-start the machine, and windows will find the deleted card and rebiuld the
drivers.
Sorry if I'm a bit vague about the procedure - its some time since I saw
W98!
