Greetings, I am currently looking for sites about controlling contrast and chromatic aberration (purple fringing), and lens distortion correction. It's my belief that software (hopefully Photoshop) will catch up to the technical disadvantages of digital photography and make these problems disappear at the click of a button.
The software is not quite there, but I am aware of several open source projects to make chromatic aberration and lens distortion a thing of the past. They seem to have the math figured out, but they are still working on a definitive program that will make it "very easy" to use for the average photographer. I am aware of some actions, plugins and programs that can do this but none so far that have reached the ultimate ease of use. One day soon, it will be included in camera and be done on the fly. There is really no reason that a camera can't have a built -in closed loop algorithm that wouldn't correct lens distortion and chromatic aberration. This would be much easier to do for cameras that have a permanent zoom lens, like the Nikon 8700. Think about it wouldn't it be nice to put a lense on your camera hit a button that would calibrate out distortion and chromaic abberration for a particular lens. I'll be sending more links from time to time. Are any of you studying or doing research in this area? I discovered this URL on Contrast blending. I thought some of you might enjoy reading it and find some of the info useful.
