Mark I can only write about what I experienced ! I contacted Customs and Excise by phone, talked to a friend who is an accountant and when I was sure ordered all the kit from B+H in NY. All the paperwork and tax collection both VAT and Import duty was taken care of by the people at UPS. I did argue over the £35 they levied but it appears to have been for the 3 year extended warranties I took out on the camera body and 3 lenses and not for any of the gear. The fact that the lenses were bought at the same time as the Digital body meant they were treated as "DIGITAL" so escaping duty. All this is fact. I saw nothing on the Customs web site to indicate that a camera had to be tethered or untethered. Bottom line for anyone is to contact Customs ,make a note of who you talk to along with time and date and proceed as required. The reasoning behind the zero duty,I'm told, is to get Britain up and running with all the latest technology. That makes sense to me along with leaving some small change in my wallet.
