I am not Shangara but I can explain:

When a battery is being charged, the electrical energy is converted to chemical
energy and that process is relatively efficient so not much heat is generated.

When the battery is fully charged, it can not absorb any more energy so the
input energy got to go somewhere, so it gets converted to heat and the battery
heats up. At that same time, the voltage of the battery is changing in a
predictable manner and the charger detects this and shuts off the charging
cycle.

Basically the way to avoid heating up the battery is to charge it slowly for a
long time.

So by just feeling your batteries in a fast charger, you can tell if they are
closed to be fully charged.

To be technical, we are not really talking about batteries here; I really
should have written "cells". (A battery is made from interconnecting several
cells.)
