I've never used a 2200 but I have a 9600 and am considering switching it to matte black. Switching on that printer is more of an ordeal simply because of consumables cost so its not a decision to be made lightly or often. On a 2200 you *ought* to be able to switch between the two easily. I've seen comments on a 9600 list that switching inks on the wide format printers will require the entire print driver to be reinstalled under OS-X before the print driver will recognize the presence of the matte black ink. If the comments I've read are correct, simply deleting the printer from the printer list and recreating it wouldn't do the trick. Maybe you're hitting this same glitch with the 2200 driver. On the larger printers, the Windows driver doesn't have this issue. Again... I've not made a switch yet myself... just relating what I've read elsewhere that relates to this process in the larger printers.
Having both inks present in the 4000 is a major benefit in terms a versatility. You can easily and quickly switch from printing on roll glossy photo paper stock to matte fine art sheets; and have the optimum ink for each. I imagine we'll see more of this in future Epson printers.
