Hello list,
Finally getting down and dirty in the weird and wonderful world of Offset printing!
We downloaded the eci profiles and few months ago now and have been using pretty successfully (we think) so far.
Am I right in stating that both the WEB and SHEET FED profiles have 100% black ink limits. SHEET FED has 350% total ink with web only 300%.
This makes sense ok, BUT a few clients (printers) have already started asking us to lower the black ink limit down a bit....
Do 'old school' printers have trouble printing a full range of black? and if so are eci trying to push people to sort this out....Does a full range of black produce a more neutral print? ( I think I read this recently) Also what ink limits are in EUROSCALE COATED V2?
Our GMG CMYK created files we have been making (non-icc) are coming in at SHEET: max 348%, black 100% WEB: max 292%, black 100%.
All makes sense there then..
If we NEED to get the black max down..do we have to manually tweak this or can we move to a PSR Gravure process?
(NB this is when our printers are in Greece and communication not really possible..quickly!)
So looking at PSR LWC (lightweight), only 90% black but HIGHER max..360%! I thought that a Gravure process could only handle LESS ink not more max...Can someone explain why this is?
Basically, the printers ideally want 340% max, 85% black....What is our best option? ISO web or PSR Gravure? apart from the large technical physical printing difference between the two...is there going to be MAJOR problems potentially?
The last images we sent a few weeks ago were ISO coated and they had to tweak to reduce black etc...
Advice etc. very welcome
Thanks as always
Graeme
