They are all good tape storage systems, the more you spend the quicker
they get but I use the (low end) DDS3 & DDS4 systems which are available
secondhand at good prices. I've found these to be very reliable indeed
and the backups just run every night automatically onto alternating tape
sets. 

As others have said they are very good for restoring entire volumes and
using incremental backups can also restore the volumes as they were at an
earlier time. I find them really great for bacon saving too - when I
downsize a file & save it over the original (not so rare an occurrence
here...) I can pop a recent tape in & get back the original file in a
couple of minutes.

The other big plus is that you can have your entire system & archive on a
few tapes and leave copies off site for security.

And I have a Sony DS3 going cheap at the moment (off list please).
