David, The underscore at the start of the file name is put there by the camera to indicate that the image is in Adobe RGB (1998) colour space. This is used by Nikon Capture on opening files so that it treats it automatically as an Adobe 98 file. Nikon Capture will treat files without an underscore at the start of the file name as sRGB files. If you are using different colour spaces on a job/shoot, its actually a handy way of seperating any sRGB files from Adobe RGB without opening them up, even if you are not using NCapture.
At some point you must have selected the Adobe colourspace in the cameras menus: Menu/Shooting menu/Optimize Image/Custom/Colour Mode/Colour mode "II" = Adobe 1998. Colour mode "I" = sRGB optimized for Portraits Colour mode "III" = optimized for Landscapes. You can only use the colour modes in the PSAM modes of the camera. Any of the Auto modes set the sRGB colourspace I or II depending on which one it is. Actually it would be handy sometimes to tell what colourspace images are in before you open them. Anyone know of a way of doing this? Regards, Frank Styevko from OZ ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Hoffman" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > I've a minor problem with my Nikon D70.
