Try adding a color fill layer - HSB of 30/80/60 might be about right. Choose "overlay" for blend mode. You'll probably want to darken and flatten the original a bit with levels, (probably pull down the upper output, too) since an oil lamp would be dim, no? Maybe de-saturate some. Hard to say without knowing what the originals look like - I think you said they were paintings?
