Are there some tricks to avoid that when scanning?

As an alternative, I have been thinking about using a digital camera shooting
tethered and using a copying light setup. I am assuming that I will use a
vacuum frame hold-down to avoid the glass cover.

I have the same problem with the old B&W photos.
I use imacon Flextight scanner which bend the photos like a virtual drum scan.
The result is no texture reflection at all.
Sorry that I don't know to solve this by using flatbed scanner or photo copy.
Just want to share my method.
