See some real preliminary test results here: http://www.rickleephoto.com/s3test.zip
Here is the text file included in the ZIP.... -=-=-=-=- This a quick test of the Fuji S3 camera which is brand new at this time. The overall shot is shown in "Church-sm.jpg" (taken with the S3) but this is a lo-res version of the shot just to show where the test was done. I shot the same shot with a Fuji S2 and an S3 using a tripod. I shot a variety of modes, but the shots you see here were shot at the same exposure and same lens... done in RAW mode and coverted to 16bit files using the Fuji HyperUtility software. At first, the S3 shot seemed to be rather dull looking with its flatter contrast. But this can be easily fixed later in software. I've made a few rather stunning prints from the files which (subjectively, to me) show a much more "naturalistic" color and tone than the S2 which, while pretty was a little bit strong in color. The shadow areas were virtually identical so I didn't bother to include any comparison shots. But the highlight areas were very different with the S3 showing much more detail in the very high end of the highlights. See the 2 highlight crops... "hi-S2.jpg" and "hi-S3.jpg". Now... take a look at the bizarre green artifacts shown in "green-S3.jpg". Notice that these are not seen in "green-S2.jpg". I believe that this is some sort of problem with the CCD reproducing the thin thin vertical lines of the reflections on the organ pipes. This is extremely preliminary. I need to do more tests. Preferably with something showing thin vertical white lines. Except for those weird artifacts, I'm very pleased with the camera. I have not shot any real jobs with it yet, but it seems to be a nice body... more professional than the S2 (which was better than the S1). The extended dynamic range also seems to be a real plus... but it will take some getting used to. -=-=-=-=-=-=- Rick Lee -------------------------------------------- http://www.rickleephoto.com -------------------------------------------- =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
