I have a Sigma 70/200 f2.8 HSM lens and it works fine on my Nikon F4 and on my Kodak 14n but when I try it my the Nikon D70 it'll take one or two shots then the "f_ _" blinks to suggest that I don't have a CPU lens fitted. If I turn it off then on again I can take a few more shots the the same thing happens. My other Nikon and Sigma lenses work fine.

thanks for the advice I'll give them a ring.... and mention your name! My other Sigma 28/70 2.8 is no problem so maybe it is a lens problem?
