To sort of close this thread, unless anyone has a explanation of Vista
architecture yet to be posted, the message I'm seeing is that Vista
isn't going to be a jump into OS390's league. 

No batch, no performance controls/database, sticking with the registry,
no keyed memory (?), no catalog (oops, forgot to mention the catalog
before - it's where metadata on all files known to the system is stored
and maintained by the OS), no ability to run Linux in an address space
(I'm adding as I go along here), no 'parts management' program, 

But it will "call home" and maybe send stuff about us to the mother
ship? Wonder what other surprises are in store for us?

Windows does work okay, though. Amazingly, it seems. Out of chaos
somehow comes order. We're doing okay with it, and it is some 90% of the
installed base, so there's a lot of mileage left in it. Maybe through
2014 <g>. Only kidding. 

The good part is that we do have the option to use Linux or Macs for
everything but VFP development - like some folks here have been doing
all along :) A VM configuration might be worth the trade-off in the
cycles it uses.
