Anyone who is working for minimum wage isn't trying hard enough to find another

Hi Michael!
Around here all employers pay the same. It is above minimum, but it is
the same. All jobs are dumbed down so that anyone can do them.
People who work here can never get far enough ahead to leave, and yet
they can't afford to stay either. Housing alone is taking up 3/4 of
their pay, even with husband and wife both working. If anyone in the
family has to have a doctor visit, they will have to file bankruptcy,
and many do that every year.
If you call the employers on it they will say they "can't afford" to pay
more. They live in mansions, have people trimming their toenails, people
watching their kids in shifts - a nanny *and* a babysitter, people
cooking for them, serving their table, dressing them, driving their
cars, mowing their lawns, you name it, and they can't afford to pay
their people a little more.
I worked for a guy one time who asked me to clock out at a certain time
and then continue working the rest of the day! He claimed I was making
more than he was, which, of course, was a lie.
The preachers in church preach on the problem from time to time. The
richies sit right there in the pew and evidently think that the preacher
is talking about someone else! They don't even have the decency to look
uncomfortable.
The problem is so bad that Florida enacted its own minimum wage a few
years ago, which raised the wages of thousands of people in our town. Of
course, the prices of life essentials instantly went up to absorb the
increase so it really didn't help that much anyway. The mass layoffs
predicted by the "economists" did not take place, however.
If you aren't working in this town, you must be dead. Employers ask you
to work for them even if you aren't looking for work. The rich people
complain constantly that they can't find help, yet never think of
raising the wages.
Regards,
Pete
