We gave the aid to bolster our presence in a Muslim nation. Indonesia lost a great deal and nothing like sending a positive message to the people who hate us like aid. Had we not had our own version of disaster, Katrina, we would have done a lot more. This was 70% politics in that the aid was a way to open the door for us to help you and advertise that help to the nation of Islam. The other 30% were just good people who gave because they knew they should.
