subversion is even "free-er" than SourceSafe. It's certainly worth
considering. There are a number of good source code control packages
out there, and I'd recommend you shop around.

In my shop, we are still maintaining SourceSafe for existing VFP
projects (it helps that we have a VSS guru in-house), but using
subversion for a lot of other projects.
