OK, I need to eat my words. A little bit of Googling shows that changing back to the "classic" Ubuntu desktop is a piece of cake. I shoulda known. I haven't been able to try it yet, as that computer is in process of copying (roughly) 12,458,673,454 files. But as soon as it is dome, I'm all over this.
