I have found dbc's useful as a transition stage starting with local tables > local views > remote views; later I found cursoradapters, which I think came too late in FoxPro evolution to be fully appreciated - as pointed out in a different post it is useful to be able to drag your data onto a form and cursoradapters will allow you to do this and then change your backend data source without breaking your forms (re-compile needed though?)

I'd modify that list just a little:
  VFP is _still_ good
  dbf's - use a SQL database instead
dbc's - never were any good!
