Malcolm,
I must admit I've started copying it locally as well.

However for Paul's use of Installshield the installer will try and put it
into Windows\system32 (or is it system? I can't remember - I need food) and
the installation will consequently fail.

No problems with Inno as you can install it anywhere.

Thanks anyway for reminding us (Paul) about the local folder copy.

Dave,

MSVCR71.dll won't install in the System32 folder of the client if access
rights are not allowed. You have to manually copy it over with admin rights
and this can be a real pain.

I install MSVCR71.DLL in my application's folder. No rights required.
Works like a charm.

BTW: Microsoft advises that MSVCR71.DLL should be stored locally with
applications or in the PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES ... folder, but never in
the WINDOWS or WINDOWS\SYSTEM* folders. This advice is for all apps that use
MSVCR71 - not just VFP.
