BTW, I am using a generic text print driver.

Jeff,
Sounds like VFP or Windows is sending an initialization sequence to the
printer that overwrites what you set manually. I suspect that the
problem is in the OS or VFP and not in the printer. Do you know if the
version of the OS makes a difference?
Here are some ideas from my past:
1. Put the dot matrix printer into a hex dump mode and see what codes
it is getting
2. Send the print job to a file and analyze the initialization codes
that are embedded
3. Try using a generic printer driver where you can control the
initialization and deinitialization strings.

Without the ??? the report does not format correctly. It *IS* the ???
that causes the blank page though.

As a test - can you manually put the printer into the needed mode and
send the job without the ??? command? I suspect the problem is
caused by
the menu bar pages rather than the ??? command but it may be that
sending
the ??? causes the menu bar pages.

Michael: The control character sent with the ??? is to put the
printer
in letter quality mode. Without it it does not print properly.
The code
has to be sent with a ??? and not an @say. What I want to do is
suppress the blank pages but still send the code.
Thanks,
Jeff

I have been printing carbonless forms using VFP for some time.
The problem I have been having is that there are two pages
wasted on each job. One at the beginning and one at the end.
The one at the beginning is caused by a ??? Letter Quality Mode
control character sent to the printer to put it in letter
quality mode. I have tried everything and we have discussed
this before. Many people have wrestled with the same problem
with no solution.
But today I noticed something that may help get the answer. I
printed an invoice with the printer turned off. When I went to
the printer control panel I noticed 3 jobs. Here is what I saw:
Pages
Menu Bar 1 680 bytes
FoxPro User-defined Job N/A 1.83K
Menu Bar 1 680 bytes
I deleted the two Menu Bar pages and the FoxPro User-defined Job
printed perfectly with no blank pages. The Menu Bar jobs are
the blank pages.
Now, any ideas on how to print the blank pages without them
going to the printer?
