Hi Kurt,

I think a project like Watson can truly have HUGE Potential. I will have to
read thru the rest of the Thread. But, I did see you started a new thread -
since communication w/Watson required usage of Containers technology. Will
definitely have to finish reading both threads - as I am Definitely curious
as to the Outcome.

-------------------------
You can follow the link I provided (https://ace.ng.bluemix.net/) for a head
start via IBM's Bluemix project.

There are pieces to the puzzle that need to be sorted out, it appears one
hard part (for me) is to acquire the use of a RESTful server, which sparked
my interest in containers, which just happened to come to my attention
around this time and seems to have a role here. That is, I can imagine my
ISP installing a container with a REST server, say from IBM or elsewhere,
and then making that service available to me, thus skipping the need to hook
up with (or switch to) another 3rd party just to get this service.
---------------------

By the way - and maybe it was already mentioned in one of the other threads.
If you can programmatically send a Q to Watson - am curious if IBM has
opened up a public webpage - where the Public can send Q's to Watson???

------------
>From what I can see, IBM's plans for Watson are very ambitious, involving a
number of partners in as many directions, so I'm sure there will be a
growing number of services available.

One thing about Watson is that if you intend to ask questions about your
business, it has to know about your business, which translates into, first
of all, security concerns, and then there's the matter of feeding Watson
with business-specific data. I presume this will involve exporting a
variety of files and database tables/data dictionaries into an acceptable
format to a secure depository somewhere.

The 2 main pieces from an applications point of view (once the technical
issues are resolved) would be providing data and asking good questions, and
the questions can be general or specific to your data/business. I've been
collecting a list of model questions that my customers might want to ask,
and they can add their own. Some questions may be useful to re-run on a
schedule.

I've built a very simple demo screen for sending questions/showing answers,
anticipating this can be done:

tm

The thinking is to encourage the operator to ask questions, so controls are
elsewhere.

Of course, the external simplicity belies its power and utility, In a way
Watson is the Holy Grail we've been looking for. We design reports to help
management answer questions and run their business, which is a tedious
affair and not very flexible. Natural language on the other hand is
supremely flexible. The Jeopardy show was done with text messages, but a
spoken interface has to be right around the corner. I think both speech and
text will be around for a while.

Bill
