Thanks for the advice.

I swapped out the RVS4000 for another router I had as a wireless access
point (first I hit the reset to set it back to factory settings), and it
worked fine...

I'll give your suggestions a try and see what happens.  At least now I know
that that all is working as it should be using a different router.

 From your local LAN try pinging your router's gateway IP and your router's
WAN IP to try and localize the breakdown.

You can also try turning everything off and waiting for about 10 minutes.
Then turn on your cable modem and wait 5 minutes.  Next turn on your router
and wait 5 minutes.  Next turn on 1 of your LAN computers plugged directly
into the router, and see if you can ping all relevant IP addresses,
including router's gateway, router's WAN, and Comcast DNS IP addresses.  If
that works try to load a web page.  If that works, plug the switch into the
router and ping from a local computer through it to see if you can reach all
relevant IP addresses.
