Do you feel like the Maliki government and army are shielding, or protecting, insurgents who are entering Iraq from Iran and Syria, because they are all Shiite Muslims who share a common Religion/Cause? I would agree Sunni Muslim leadership in Iraq would do more to identify and eliminate Shiite insurgents, but isn't Al Qaeda mostly Sunni Muslims? If the leader of Iraq were Sunni, wouldn't there be a trend towards protecting Al Qaeda, while persecuting, or even eliminating, Shai Countrymen? Is there any hope that Sunni and Shiite Muslims in Iraq can live in peace, because I don't have a solution. The solution can only come from within Iraq. Only the people of Iraq can decide to live in peace or continue the violence.
1) You could partition the country under treaties between the Shiite, Sunni, and Kurd factions, but many powerful Iraqis oppose this idea. Also, this would weaken the country against possible outside enemies like Iran. You know a country divided is more easily conquered than a unified country. 2) Agree to live as a single country under a Democratic form of government as embodied in the Iraq Constitution. 3) Continue to wage a civil war where the eventual winner would rule Iraq. The civil war is basically partitioning the country of itself. 4) dissolve Iraq and become a state of another country like Iran or Saudi Arabia. The Country might even be partitioned with the Sunni part becoming a state of Saudi Arabia and the Shiite part becoming a part of Iran, etc. Regards, LelandJ Graham Dobson wrote: >> Why do you think it would take a "strong Sunni" leader to unify Iraq. >> > > Because that's what is lacking in the current equation.
