        For me it's probably about the same, since I do it all the time. And  
with older eyes, having one crisp image to focus on instead of  
refocusing to different distances is a huge benefit.

        If I'm looking for a particular paper, side-by-side is better. Once  
I find it, I physically move it so that I can read it more easily.

        I've used many different approaches. I prefer two monitors, but am  
very used to working with one. Having an approach that works around  
one monitor also helps when switching to pure laptop mode, as it  
doesn't require anything different.

        I've used more than two monitors, as you do, and did not care for it  
at all.
