Yes, it is a DVD Reader and Writer. It will take all DVD formats. I usually use Memorex as the brand name. All you have to choose is whether you want it to be + or - for the format. RW is read/writable which I am assuming you know, so unless you need it to be reusable, then just go with either +R or -R. Then DL is dual layer, so it depends on whether you want to fit 4.7 gigs on a disk or 8.5 gigs. Your choice as well, and some DVD players do not work with DL so that has to come into consideration.
