the petrol tax would pay some of the cost of universal health care.
Perhaps such a tax would needle more people into walking and ride
bicycles, which is great preventive medicine. Currently I'm paying
$177.00 per month for health insurance, which I understand is a really
good deal. I hardly ever use medicine, even aspirin. However, there is
one prescription I take daily to control my asthma. Its called serevent
and come in a disk with 60 shots each. I'm required to inhale the
serevent twice daily, so one diskus of 60 shots last me about a month.
It cost $35.00 per diskus with health insurance, and $125.00 per diskus
without health insurance. I think the cost of medicine is ridiculously
high, and I'm hoping we eventually get universal health insurance with
better regulation of the health care industry. The regulators would
require that health care providers maintain a reasonable relationship
between the prices charged consumers for health care product and thier
costs to deliver the health care goods and services. This would make the
health care industry much like utility companies that are monopolies,
requiring them to justify cost increases to a regulatory board. I don't
mind the health care companies making a reasonable profit, but whats
going on right now is closer to extortion than capitalism. FCOL (eg for
crying out loud)

I think they try to blame the lawsuits for their expensive drugs and
services. In your gov't healthcare plan, not only do you want to
regulate cost of medicines/services, but also regulate the cost of
lawsuits....especially the frivilous ones.
