I haven't said anything about Python because I don't know enough to comment. I am taking all that's said to heart. > As for the business side of the issue... if your apps are relatively > well coded you shouldn't have too much of a hassle porting > them. I never liked LOC valuations because they are so arguable, but nevertheless it's still possible to obtain a number (total project cost / lines of code) using it. I've heard numbers from others that range from $5/LOC up, but taking the lowest number I've heard, $5, then 5 * 300,000 = $ 1.5 million. I would say, all arguments considered, that is a reasonable number. Now, let's say that in the very best, ideal circumstances, which never happens, another re-write would cost a fraction of that number, say 1/5th, that's in the ballpark of $ 300,000. It will be a cold day in Hell when I throw another $300k+++ into yet another re-write. I'll take my chances and see what our world looks like in 7 years. I'm willing to bet that I'm not crazy and more and better options will emerge. > Or you could keep the old apps and do every new development in > Python. But hey, I just love the language so my view is obviously biased. I do hear you, but do you hear me?
