At 650 lb, imagine all the places college kids would put one of these owned by 
an unsuspecting prof like they used to do with VW Beetles!  With those 
components it sounds like it would be pretty expensive, not to mention the 
snap, crakle and pop you would hear as it got run over by an SUV.  The 
comparison to the safety of a racing GT is valid if the other vehicles are of 
comparable weight or you are hitting stationary objects, but when coming in 
contact with a moving vehicle of significantly greater mass, you can kiss your 
butt goodbye.
