I think so long as the highest offices are captive to mob emotions and the
whims of mob sentiment, you'll NEVER get the money out of politics or create
a dynamic in which people look at the job with a true servant's heart.

Instead, it becomes a game of power acquisition and dispensation, and a war
of shifting forms and illusory images rather than a contest of actual ideas.

This is why uniformly bad "ideas" like socialism keep coming back from the
abyss of utter failure, even from within the so-called "Republican"
party---a little repackaging here, some mob conditioning there, and the next
thing you know, everybody's in favor of the government controlling, well,
everything--the economy, our retirement funds, our access to prescription
drugs, our thoughts, even the weather.

My new motto: "It was a grand Republic, while it lasted..."
