Internally, yes, however Putin is using Machiavelli's advice and does not care 
whether we like him or not.  Unfortunately, human nature is such that most 
people in our country today will roll over on those they love if something they 
fear comes upon them.  So, the Machiavellian types look on the warm fuzzy types 
as being weak so they tend to push things to the point where we either have to 
give in to them or go all out and smack them down.  Best they see the smack 
down well in advance so the don't push the envelope.

Speak softly and carry a big, mean ole stick!  But you must also be willing to 
use it.
