What do you think would happen if they did not step in? Just think about all those policies that were in effect covering a variety of business and national concerns. What about all those 401Ks that had a small segment in insuarnce. That money would have been gone. You would be PISSED. Now take all the people that just got swindled out of some of their investments, usually in Funds vs stocks. What if 20% or more of the medical providers insurance was via AIG. Would surgeons show up at work without protection? The same with F' Freddie and Fannie. Too much at stake. So the government comes in and saves the day. Kind of like invading Normandy, but no bullets whizzing through your chest. You are safe. Right? You still have your false sense of security and you think that everything is going to be OK. So how are we going to achieve smaller government when natural greed overcomes everyone and thing in daily lives? Who will get in their way in the future? We have seen first hand that they are not capable of doing it on their own.
