No, Obama himself prefaced his remarks indicating he might be biased because Henry Gates is his good friend, and that he didn't know all the facts. This latter point can be said of all of Obama's opinions, but the former says a lot more about him, now that we know what kind of jackass Prof. Gates is. These admissions did not in any way dissuade him from taking the low road of pronouncing the actions of the police "stupid" anyway, as he morally equated Gates' belligerent buffoonery to anyone's righteous indignation for having been arrested in their own home without cause, then went on to talk about a completely different subject, racial profiling. It's a completely different subject because in this case the officer was going to protect the Right Hon. Professor's property from a possible break-in. It just so happened on his visit to the socialist Paradise of China, Prof. Gates lost his keys and had to break into his own house, then he decided, rather than simply show the officer his ID and assure him there was no crime in progress, to berate the officer and say certain things about his mamma you wouldn't expect a faculty head at Harvard to say to a respected officer of the law. This isn't a case of Mr. K. being arrested one fine morning for no particular reason. The only reason he was arrested was because from the moment the Sgt. arrived on the scene Gates was belligerent and accusatory. All the police officer -- who by the way, in a deliciously ironic twist, is the department expert on racial profiling and the guy who gave CPR to a dying (black) basketball player -- all he was trying to do is check out a possible break in reported by one of the Professor's (racist?) neighbors.
