My point was a bit more subtle. Namely: It's ignorant and ridiculous to view
all things black through the narrow prism of the American experience with
African culture. The irony of all these hate pimps teaching so-called
"African studies" here in the US is that they have this political agenda,
which necessitates creating myths about African culture and how American
culture has somehow spoiled it, or how slavery as experienced in America is
somehow unique and especially horrible in world history, which is loaded
with examples of interracial and international brutality.

Notice he doesn't complain about what happens to a black man in Africa,
whose life is a lot more nasty, brutish and short than his glorified
existence here in the "belly of the beast."

Only in America can an ignoramus like Henry Gates pull a six figure salary
as the head of a bogus education faculty and turn a simple police officer
protecting his home while he's off worshipping Chairman Mao into a lucrative
PR stunt.

The story about the girl is just heartbreaking, but the fact her own family
rejects her after these teenage boys abuse her tells you a lot about
"African culture" that I doubt Mr. Let Me Talk To Yo Mama in Harvard teaches
his students.
