My 5 yo Asus M6 has also developed a battery problem. Works fine while plugged in but when on battery, and the charge drops to 97%, the machine switches off. Bought a new battery, same thing happens. There is a battery 'recalibration' option in the BIOS which will fully charge/discharge the battery, made no difference. My supplier says I can replace the mainboard for au$260... Can't think of what else (external to mainboard) it could be.
