Sure, but it's not like it never happens with other tools and platforms, and it's not like Microsoft doesn't usually end up producing excellent tools and languages. People don't just use Visual Studio and the rest because they *have* to. They could all use SharpDevelop or Eclipse to develop in C#. But this sort of uncertainty would drive anyone nuts.
