You should be able to explicitly SET ORDER TO a different index file, CDX or 
IDX, but the default active index file when you USE the table will be the 
structural CDX (i.e. the one with the same name as the DBF). I'll often do this 
when I need a temporary index. Another thing you have to keep in mind when you 
have additional indexes is you must explicitly open them for them to be 
updated. VFP will only open the structural CDX when the table is USEd.

Seems I answered my own question. After a real quick test - its obvious that if 
you have a CDX attached to a DBF - even if you attempt to Set Index to an IDX 
file - VFP Refuses to let you do it. It won't report an error or crash - it 
simply as though it ignores that you issued the command. Oh well - on to 
another solution...
