I suggested to Roger a long time ago that the Dictionary of J should follow
the standard practise of lexicographers. They follow the headword by the
part of speech, then go on to give detailed information about the meaning.
He obviously has reasons for not wanting to include it in the definitions
but it would surely be much easier for the user to have it attached to the
definitions rather than off in an Appendix, or identified by the font used
in the Vocabulary table.
The part of speech associated with each primitive is central to all aspects
of its use. It really deserves a formal place where it is explicitly stated
at the head of the Dictionary page which states the definitions.
