My mistake. Looking back, _ _ _ is hard to distinguish from whitespace.
Also, using b. gave me a spelling error. To be precise, the "rank" of
the conjunction is the rank of the derived verb.
I guess my initial problem was that this documentation was cleverly
hidden, the need for which I don't really see.

Indeed, since conjunctions take and produce verbs,
they can control their rank. As it is seen in the
definition of (&.:).
The Dictionary page is accessible with Ctrl+F1
on the conjunction from the session.
