I did once make an SQLite database to keep track of some business-related material, and I wrote scripts to extract data from SQLite and publish them in a periodic report. That was easier, though -- tables, graphs, section headers, and flowing text. This time, I'm trying to place text at arbitrary spots on the page in a landscape format. I'm not sure if I ever ran the demo. I'm stuck between J Publish, ReportLab, DocBook, and LaTeX. I haven't figured out how to do that in ReportLab, either. I'm doing this on Windows, and I've almost never had luck getting a free DocBook toolchain on Windows, even with cygwin (except when I installed coLinux and cheated :-). So if I don't figure Publish or ReportLab out soon, I may switch to a bash script and LaTeX; I'm pretty sure I can make that work.
