Hi all,

Question about a how citation order numbers are represented in the
MARC data. For datafield 999, subfield $o, what is the reasoning
behind the inclusion of the brackets? For instance, why "[23]" and not
just "23"?

I just happened across this randomly today; it's not causing a problem
or anything. It just seems like an odd decision.

Thanks,

>From the "How to Marc ADS" doc:
"""
999: Reference (R)
    Indicators
        First: C
        Second: 5
    Subfields:
        $e: Score (NR) (ADS definition)
        $f: Source (NR) (ADS definition)
        $o: Order number (NR)
        $m: Unresolved reference string (NR)
$r: Bibcode for resolved reference (NR)
$i: Other identifier for resolved reference (R) (ADS definition)
    Notes:
The order number is in the form [number]; example [23]
