It was setup in january 2004 and started on february (3rd).

> - What is the goal of this project ?

To host Free Software projects and foster cooperation and
participation around Free Software. It's also a reference platform
(with savannah.gnu.org) for the "Savane" forge software.

> - What is the Philosophy of Gna ?

We're picky about what is Free Software and stand strictly by the
philosophy of the GNU project. A "constitution" has been set up to
clarify the details: http://about.gna.org/

Our commitment to Free Software and exclusion of non-free
contributions. Gna! can also be regarded as a "legal-safe" software
repository, as we make sure that every software is properly licensed and
always GPL compatible. I don't think any other platform provides and
enforce this legal expertise (apart our cousin savannah.gnu.org).

> - How many people take part to Gna's project ? (administrators, holders...) ?

It was started with 3 people, we have 2-3 contributors right now.

> - How many projects are registered on Gna ?

As of May, 18 2006, there are 726 projects.

Gna! provides lots of services for a developer:
  - tools: SCM, downloads, ticketing, mailing-lists
  - visibilty
  - support and advice
  - safety (backups)
  - ubiquity: we make sure Gna! is always available and will always be
(archive, etc)
  ... all in one.

> - Are some requisite points on registering on Gna ? If so, what are they ?

As a user, nothing special, it's automatic and instant.

For projects, there is a process and check-list. A brief sum-up would
be:
  - you need a user account
  - you need to understand our constitution
  - you need to submit GPL-compatible software
  - you need to show actual code and make sure it is properly licensed

> - What is the average lead time to register a project on Gna ?

I'm not sure, I would say 1-2 days, although it's often less.

> - How to register ?

  Apply online at https://gna.org/register/

  Any language.

> - Disk storage,

We're permissive, we just check for abuses. For instance, we don't
allow "Linux distribution" hosting (easily takes gigabytes). We're not
short of disk space.

> - Support Languages (PHP4, PHP5, Perl, Python, etc...),

None. For site hosting we only allow SSI (server-side includes). We
consider website hosting to be a separate (and costly/dangerous) job.

  None.

  None.

One (1), plus any number of mailing-lists.

We can map user-owned domains to a Gna! project home on demand.

Nope, we provide HTTP and rsync.

  Nope.

Yep, for homepages and downloads (http://stats.gna.org/) and site
global (https://gna.org/stats/).
