The suspect, identified as Adil Firmansyah Islami, 27, reportedly targeted female presenter Grace Natalie who was standing outside the building together with several co-workers. “We believe the motive was the number ‘1’ on the TV One logo. He shouted ‘one can only represent God’ and we should not [use the number]. He’s a distressed man,” the building security coordinator identified only as Adrun said of the suspect. Adil entered the complex through the car exit gate carrying a backpack. “When he was asked a question, he took the knife out of his jacket almost immediately,” Adrun said. “And he attacked people at the location.” Grace was standing with several people, preparing for the “Apa Kabar Indonesia Malam” show. The suspect, reportedly from Cilacap, Central Java, shouted “Allahu Akbar” as he brandished the knife. “The attacker, from his body language, appeared to be pursuing Grace. But Grace was immediately rushed into the building,” said Deni Setiawan, another TV One employee who was at the scene during the attack. A crew member named Dadang tried to stop the attacker by kicking him to the ground, but Dadang sustained a knife wound. “He was stabbed in the stomach and he’s bleeding,” Deni said of Dadang. The attacker managed to stand up and run into the building at which point a security guard named Abu Bakar fought him. “The security guard also was injured in the stomach,” Deni said. Comr. Hengky Hariadi, the detective unit head of the Central Jakarta Police, said an investigation was underway. “We are still investigating the motive,” the officer said. The suspect was detained at the police station and officers seized a kitchen knife from him, a note containing the TV segment filming address, a medicine bottle, Rp 7,000 (70 cents), instant noodles and biscuits.
