Found it. It's on /dev/usb/ttyUSB1 according to dmesg.

But for some reason, it still will not connect. it just times out. Any ideas what could be causing that?

hit sync and run dmesg from a terminal.  this will tell you which USB port it is.  Usually the device is closer to /dev/usb/ttyUSB1.

Subject: USB Cradle setup (Was: 8.0 Problems - Any ideas?)

OK - tried /dev/ttyUSB0 through 10 with no luck. Verified that it's /dev/ttyUSB0, USB1, ... in the process. I specificed that it was a Handspring USB connection and also tried standard serial. No joy...

Any way I can tell which USB port the mouse is on and work from there, since the cradle is on the same controller? Could I be doing something else wrong?

Cheers,

I think I can answer the usb one, try /dev/ttyUSB02, if thats doesnt
work try /dev/ttyUSB00-10 until you find the right port
