Kevin is exactly right for example the Mackie unit we have can be purchased for 
six or $800. You can get a brand-new one for around US$1000. If you are in 
thought of even moving to logic it will work great with logic Pro X. They say 
the artist things will work as well but that is a very huge expense for a start 
up project. I used to use a Tascam I can truthfully say I do not know how I 
made it without a surface. I would have gotten much more work done had  I went  
a head and bought something a lot sooner after leaving my Tascam FW 1082 and 
windows behind..
