Hi Slau,
Since your recommendation I'm very tempted to upgrade to Sierra, but two
questions please:
Is there any chance of the Artist Mix not working correctly if I do?
And,
What are the main advantages which you said would outweigh any minor
annoyances?
Best,
Peter

Hi Martin,
You'll probably be fine but sometimes unexpected problems can arise, depending on
what other software you might be using. For example, Native Instruments had an
issue with the Komplete Kontrol plug-in that kept being rejected by Pro Tools as
not being a 64-bit plug-in even though it is 64-bit. Allegedly, the problem was
limited to Yosemite. However, after upgrading directly to Sierra, I saw the same
problem and this was the first known instance of that problem on Sierra. Yesterday,
Native Instruments released a fix for the problem. In the mean time, however, I
decided to nuke & pave the studio computer to do a fresh install of Sierra. I
might not have undertaken such a task but it just so happens that my Magma
chassis's power supply died and I had no other option but to send it back to San
Diego for repair. With a lot of down time on my hands, I wiped the studio drive and
did a clean install. Needless to say, it's a super tedious process and can take
days to tweak. I had freshly installed disc images that were ready to go in case of
catastrophic failure but, unfortunately, they were all based on Yosemite. I had
never installed Sierra on the studio computer so I had no image of that disc. Well,
now I'll have an opportunity to create one as soon as I'm done tweaking. The most
problematic stuff is the reauthorization of non iLok-based software, stuff with
challenge/response and hardware fingerprinting. Anyway, it's difficult to say
whether it's worth it. I'd say, do two backups of your system drive and go for the
direct update. Try it for a few days and see how it goes. If everything's fine,
you're all set. If not, then make a detailed plan.
HTH,
Slau

Hi all!
When upgrading from Yosemite to Sierra...
Is it necessary to make a fresh installation of Sierra or could I use the
update function.
I'm already running Pro Tools 12.7.1
Thanks in advance and have a successful week! / Martin
