in addition to the hints Christopher gave to you, you may also want to have a look at ptolemy.vergil.basic.EditorDropTarget when you are looking for the 'drag and drop' mechanism from the library into the graph.
And another thing that might be of interest is the built-in icon handling of vergil (for example if you want to customize icons) which is explained in the first of the three big PtolemyII docs (in chapter 5, Designing Actors).
