J, The fact that you are able to hear the sound coming out from the computer suggests to me that you are not plugged into the correct jack point on the computer. You should be plugged into the headphones socket I think.
The other thing that you should check is that the recording level is OK. If the unit is saying Low, it is probably because the sound is not coming through the cable at all. Once you are sure that the physical connection is OK, then you should be able to adjust the recording level reliably until it says "Good". Hope this helps.
