Below are questions regarding some of the new firmware features you posted.
* Low Battery Warning Feature AddedDoes this mean that it is OK to plug the PTR1 into an AC outlet while it is still running or not running but turned on?
With the existing firmware, when the battery gets low the unit automatically shuts down without any warnings to prevent any recording or memory failures. With the new firmware, users will receive a one minute low battery warning, this way, users can choose to plug the unit into an electrical outlet or stop the recording before the unit automatically shuts down.
I understood that the PTR1 needed to be shut down before plugging it in and then restarted, and that it should be shut down before unplugging it and going to battery power.
* Changed The Playback Behavior
The existing firmware automatically jumps to the beginning of a new title when a current title comes to an end. New firmware does not jump to the beginning of a new title, user must do it manually to prevent overwriting the original recordings.
I don't quite understand what this one means. If it's talking about playback, how is it that overwriting original recordings is a concern? Could it be that it's meant that the next title will not start playing when the first is done? That would make sense to me, but the way this feature is worded is confusing.
* Enhanced MP3 playback on the memory cardIf MP3 files can be played from the PC card, does this mean the PlexTalk will be able to "backup" an MP3 disk (not a Daisy disk) to the PC card? This is a problem now for more than just loading MP3 files onto the card and playing them. If you have a book in MP3 format and you want to create a Daisy book from it, you have no way to put the diskful of MP3 files onto the card.
The existing firmware can not play MP3 files in the PC card. New firmware allows
playback of MP3 files in the PC card
Sounds like the PlexTalk's new firmware will enhance it's functionality greatly. We can hardly wait for June.
Thanks for the posting! Some of us didn't read the Plextor website.
