At my radio station, our engineers routnely produce both audio and data CDs using the same brand and type of CDRs or CDRWs. I wish this could be the case with the PTR1.

Hi,

No. Simply put, the audio use CDs have a different make up on the
initial ID track, which will tell a machine that they are for audio use.
Whether the quality of these in relation to data CDs is any better I
will leave it up to you - it probably depends on the manufacturer, as
anyone who presses the disks can easily set the required information to
how they want.

may one record over previous sections, or make
corrrections--that would be actually recording over
something, or cutting something out? I imagine editing with
the editing menu, as you said, would be fine

Thanks.  I'm still confused about audio versus data CDs;
arethere any CDs
that will allow for both audio and data use?

Yes, you can use a CD-R for Daisy recording and editing.
Although, once
recorded, audio will remain on the CD-R, the Daisy
navigation files keep
track of sections that are editted out or in so that they
play in the
desired order.

As for CD-RW, in my experience, it is difficult to find a
digital audio
CD-RW - mostly all you will find are data CD-RW. If using
a data CD-RW, the
only choice the PTR1 will give you is Daisy recording. Within Daisy
recording, you can choose PCM 44.1 or MP3 compression, but
in either case it
is only a Daisy recording, playable only on a Daisy playback device.

To record directly in PCM 44.1 stereo, one must use a
digital audio CD-R or
CD-RW (sometimes also called "music CD"). Then, the PTR1
will allow such a
recording. However, there is no editting permitted.

If I wish to end up with a recording in PCM 44.1 stereo, it
has been easiest
for me to first record on a flash card as a Daisy title with all its
editting capabilities. Then, once it is just as I like it,
I back up to a
digital audio CD-R or RW in PCM 44.1 stereo.

As for brands of CD-R or CD-RWs, IRTI uses Verbatum and
Imation with good
results.

I have another question re CDs and the PTR1: If you use
CDR-type CDs,
then you can't erase at all, correct--that is, while you
are recording
material, you can't record over or correct anyting.
Also, when buying CDRWs, must I specify audio or data, or
what, and what
brands work the bestt? Thanks much.

I'd like to make the following observations about these three
   companies.
1. They have all been around for several years, and they're not
fly-by-night companies.
2. I have purchased items from all of them on several
occasions and
they are all three good and reliable companies.

3. They all have good prices, but one may be less
expensive on certain
items. J and R sells many items from CDS to music to computers to
kitchen appliances, just to name a few.
4. Tape World has a flat shipping rate of $6.95,
so theoretically, if they had enough items you wanted,
you could spend hundreds of dollars at one time for a low
flat shipping
rate. I won't say these three companies have the absolute
bottom prices
for name brand CDS and related items, but I sincerely
believe that not
only are their prices reasonable, but that they are good
and reliable
companies. Anyone is welcome to e-mail me privately of your
experiences with them, but I have had no problems
whatsoever when doing
business with any of these companies.
