Dennis, Sandisk Compact Flash cards are good and seem to work well in BLT, PacMate and PTR1. This, I think, is because the ones that work are formatted as FAT and not FAT 32 etc. I think the 2GB is the highest I've seen. I also think I purchased mine from EXPANSYS. (Sorry, I shop at various places and don't always remember where I made a successful purchase.)
You can go to www.expansys.com or call 0161 868 0868. A call before about 3PM should result in next day delivery. So far as microphones are concerned, I purchased a good sterio microphone which fits into your ears and works well with a preamp which is sold along with it by a company recommended by Steve Nutt. He wrote to me in September last year. (Quote:) Actually, you can't plug a microphone straight into a line socket, as you correctly state, but you can get a mic preamp to beef up the impedence, and some are quite small. I have heard of a microphone called the OKM II (http://www.soundman.de), which is distributed by Dacs Audio in the UK, I believe their URL is http://www.dacs-audio.com. This is an in-ear headset mic, which records binaurally. This records exactly what you hear in true binaural. Soundman and consequently Dacs Audio, also can sell you a preamp for this mic called the A3P I believe. I don't have one personally, but people have reported excellent results with this mic/preamp combination. I am about to get one though. This is what I got too. The microphone is from Germany. (I haven't used it as extensively as I would like for two reasons: 1) I have suffered many ear infections recently so have had to keep everything clear of my ears; and 2) The lead on the microphones is a normal (shortish) length and I like to try to get further away from the PTR1 when recording. This was especially the case when I used the 5GB Toshiba Type II PCMCIA Hard Disk as I'd pick up the movement of the disk, which was why I eventually went for Compact Flash. I hope you find this helpful. -- Carol [EMAIL PROTECTED] -----Original Message----- From: Dennis Freedman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 21 August 2004 15:16 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Update info please on prefor UK? Hello Having now installed the new firmware and after neglecting my PTR1 for the purpose I originally bought it, I would like to try again to get set up for live recording. I already have a small stereo mic. I remember reading a while ago of a British-made stereo pream (battery powered) that might do the trick, but any advice on currently available models/suppliers would be welcomed. I also shied away from buying a CF card due to some people having problems with the ones they'd bought, so again would welcome current advice for obtaining 1 or 5GB cards, , especially having read in a previous firmware release that compatibility issues with compact flash cards have been resolved. Thanks in advance. With best wishes, Dennis Freedman. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- Incoming mail is certified Virus Free.
